How to Use Social Media Powerfully
I regularly tell anyone that will listen that they need to have an updated portrait of themselves for use on their social media profiles and website. In fact I often start my pitch at networking events by asking how many people in the room are using a picture of their dog or cat, or even a great portrait that no longer actually looks like them. (And then I tell them to call me.)
2. Post a picture. Please. Of your face.
You should have a professional looking headshot as your LinkedIn photo so people can put a name to a face. If you’re uncomfortable with recruiters or prospective clients seeing your picture next to your professional credentials (a valid concern), you can change your privacy settings so only your connections can see your photo.

Ingrid Kittlaus – Allstate Canada
Ingrid is Business Development Agent at Allstate Canada. She came into my studio for some new headshots for use on her business advertising materials and social media accounts. Although she needed a standard head and shoulders business portrait for LinkedIn and her company website, she also wanted a few images that showed her lighter side. She felt that some more personable images would be a better fit for use on Facebook. Than a typical headshot.
We had a very fun session and quickly made some nice standard business portraits. After that we relaxed and tried a number of fun poses and changed up the backdrop a couple of times. I was able to present quite a few great portraits for Ingrid to choose from. Here are some of my favorites:
